Can anyone recommend good books for training and caring for your puppy and dog.?

I am looking for books not internet resources. I have a german shepherd who only has a few months left to live and then I will look at getting another german shepherd so I want to make sure my current dog has the best few months possible and but also be prepared to do everything better next time, such as feeding it a high quality food, knowing how to keep the dog healthy and knowing signs of an unhealthy dog.

I want my next dog to have the best life possible and any suggestions on how to make my current dog happy would be great too.

First off, just make your current dog comfortable and spoil him/her a bit..
As for your upcoming new friend, find a good responsible breeder who will mentor you.
