Large Dog Breeds: First Choice of Dog Lovers

 

If you want to be the proud owner of a large dog, then there are plenty of choices. Today, most of the dog owners prefer to have large dog breeds for very any reasons. It is evident from the AKC top ten favourite dog breeds, which comprises of large dog breeds. It includes Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherd Dogs and Boxers with Poodle standing at eighth in the list. Have you ever thought why so many dogs are there in the list despite appearing so intimidating, requiring more room and firmer training, as compared to Pomeranian or Pug. Not only this, they even cost more to feed in comparison to smaller dogs. There must be something for why so many dog owners prefer to have a large dog breed than any other breed. Let us know what it is that makes these creatures special and so popular among dog owners.

You might find it hard to understand without owning one. Most of the dog owners feel pride in calling them as their “companion” and “friend”. Most of the large dog breeds are the most gentle one. Exceptions are surely there, but all the dogs mentioned here other than the German Shepherd, Rottweilers, Weimaraners and the Doberman Pinscher, are really affectionate. On the other hand, those who are not that gentle make excellent guard dogs.

You will also find very many giant dogs including St. Bernards, Irish Wolfhounds and many more bulky breeds. The Great Danes that is just a few inches smaller than the Irish Wolfhounds stood at 24th position of the favourite breed. In the list of the American Kennel Club 2006, 155 dogs are mentioned in the list. It is definitely a remarkable achievement to be in the top 30 list and it includes eleven large dog breeds, with Mastiffs just two positions behind at 32. Every creature has a temperament of his own and expecting same from everyone won’t be a sensible thing to do. Just imagine, a Mastiff behaving like Chihuahua, isn’t the thought frightening. The Labrador Retriever is quite a lot popular than other breeds, all this confirms the immense popularity of large dogs among people.

What dog is right for me?

Well, I’m 16. I absolutely want a companion (dog) more than anything right now.
Take in mind I am taking him/her wherever I move out to when I’m older. I will be in school for only 3 hours a day, come home, then go to work if I’m scheduled that day. I am a dog lover and whenever I see a dog I love to give it my attention.

My favorite types of dogs are Akita, Alaskan Malamutes or Siberian Huskies, Samoyeds, and Shiba Inus.

Those may be a little difficult for me. Everyone keeps telling me that I cannot own a husky. But I’m willing to put my all into it, but oh well… On to plan B. *sniffle*

What dog, alone those lines, could be right for me? I do NOT like small dogs at all. Like, little rat dogs? No. I cant have a huge dog, I’d love to but I cant. So What medium/small-ISH dog is a good breed? thanks!

I’m willing to get active and stay fit, which means I will take my dog everywhere with me. I love taking dogs on walks, and playing with them.

well, my personal favorite is a blue heeler… they usually dont get any bigger than i say about 25-30 pounds… they are really active and will tear up stuff if you dont give them enough stuff to do… my gma has one and shes prolly about 25 lbs right now and about 10 months old -aprox. at least… she was about 2 months when they got her back n april- but theyre really good with people and will love you forever… personaly, when i go down to my gmas house, i take “her” -i claim it to be mine - puppy up and down the driveway -1/2 mile back and forth- when i get the mail and it usually wears them out… im not sure if its because its got a steeper level or if its just the lenght, but it wears her out really quickly… oh! and i highly suggest maybe having another dog there to play with it, cause once again, they do have a lot of energy and will destroy ur stuff if you dont keep them occupied with something… or maybe even taking them to a dog park for a while will calm them down… most of them usually like water and theyre realy easy to groom. just brush them every couple days and you wont have to worry too much about shedding… i already new most of this stuff, but im putting sites down if you want more info…
