Why Greyhound Handicapping is Like Playing Poker
Remember the old song, “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers? Well, if you do, you know that the chorus said that the most important part of winning at poker is knowing when to fold and when to hold. The same is true of picking winners at the dog track.
In poker, you get a chance to play or pass on most hands. The same is true of races. Every race is an opportunity for you to make a bet or pass it up. Too many bettors forget that as their handicapping career moves along.
Desperation is often what motivates people to bet races they really shouldn’t. They lose money and then feel as if they have to bet every race to make it up. Sadly, that almost never works and they end up even farther behind the eight ball.
Sometimes, the best thing to do when you lose money is go home and live with your loss, instead of making it a bigger loss. You have to admit the obvious, which is that no one is right all the time. No one can pick winners in every race on every program.
So, why do you try to do it? If you feel sure about your bets, then by all means, bet them. If you find yourself desperately trying to find something to bet on in a race, just so you’ll have a bet in that race, it’s time to fold ‘em. Sit out that race and focus your time, effort and money on a race where you really feel that your dog has a chance to win.

Why do dogs play poker for money if they can’t honour their obligaions if they lose?
I beat a dog at poker but he didn’t even have any money and now he owes me £1265.
How do I get this money ?
Sell the debt to Tony Soprano for 60% of the face value. You at least get something, and you know Tony will get his money. He always does.
