Dog just pooped in his crate?

Hi, very puzzled! I use a crate with my 4 month old pup, he sleeps in it fine and has done since day one, it has a nice snuggly blanket in it and a couple of toys. Tonight I was cooking dinner and he was pottering about, I noticed after a while that he had gone into his crate, pooped in it and come out again! altough there is paper down still on the floor in case of accidents. I’m not too fussed, as although his housetraining is going well I expect the odd accident at 4 months old, I;m just puzzled as to why he would go and deliberately soil his own bed? any ideas?

Do you take him outside when he needs the toilet? if you have been housetraining him inside using paper or puppy pads etc, it could be that the pup thinks anywere in the house is fine to use as a toilet. Generally pups dont poo or wee in there crate, apart from the odd accident over night when they can’t hold themselves. It could be that your pup simply needed the toilet and he went to the one place he knew was his [his crate]. Wash the base down were the pup soiled as he is more likely to go there again if he can smell were he’s been. I wouldn’t worry to much as im sure it’s just a one off and like you said his housetraining is going ok.
