Make sure your dog is safe in the Snow

With the sudden recent snowfall and adverse weather conditions, you might have had a change of wardrobe to cope with the drop in temperatures, filled your car with antifreeze and insulated your home. However don’t forget to take precautions to keep your dog warm and safe this winter. There are plenty of winter hazards out there that dogs can be vulnerable too, so always maintain that your dog is never left outside unsupervised without a heated shelter, sometime dog fur isn’t enough to keep them warm in the icy weather.

There are dog breeds that are more suited to the winter weather such as huskies, however small dogs or those with little to no hair should have dog coats to protect against the cold while going for walks. Some of the most common breeds that will benefit from protective clothing are Pugs terriers and and Greyhounds. Some dogs may find wearing clothing uncomfortable so don’t push it on them and do your best to make sure they stay indoors most of the time. Make their eating and drinking area inside in a warm area, it could be distressing for them to have their comforts out in the cold

When walking your dog over snowy surfaces make sure that they are held close so they aren’t prone to slipping. Also if you’re walking by frozen rivers or ice always keep a close watch your dog and be sure he says nearby, sometimes they can mistake frozen ice for ground and could end up slipping in. If your dog begins to shiver while walking outside, get them indoors as quick possible; if you think it is serious then take it to the vets to prevent hyperthermia.

Furthermore don’t let your snow eat anything from the ground sharp or poisons objects could be hidden in the snow and even eating too much snow can develop an upset stomach. If any your dog’s behaviour is abnormal or signs of illness appear then it is highly advised to seek medical check from your vet.

Eventually I want to get a dog for my own place and ive been liking the Siberian Husky a lot.

I hear that, they have loads of energy, need constant attention for their energy, and can ruin your cables, shoes, clothes etc?

What if I got a female? Aren’t most female dogs less energetic anyway? Do Sibe Huskies really need to be walked 2-3 miles per day?

As for their shedding, how much do they shed? Is it a weekly thing to remove hair with a hair remover comb or just sertent parts of a year month?

Anything else I missed on? Thanks a ton in advance.

Kev, firstly congrates on your decision to adopt a sweet lil baby dog, Well Sib huskies are amazing. the faithfulness of a dog, as they are and looks of a wolf..amazing combination, they will love u more than u can ever love them. The only issue is they will shed a lot. and yes they are very big so they will definately walk or run a lot. Kev, u need to have a big backyard and morever, u should live at the hottest place.
