Innotek dog Fence (underground)?
Hello everyone!
I am moving, and i have a rather large yard, well, im going to get the Innotek underground dog fence, to keep my dogs out of the street, I was just wondering.
one comes with 500 ft. of wire, I bought an extra 500 ft. of wire, so now. I need to know. how many acres is that?
Also if anyone has used them, how long did it take for your dog to get the point?
the pro’s the con’s?
the whole deal?
Jenny-
on the site, it says if the dogs do break out, they will continue to get shocked until they come back in the fence?
is this not the case?
jenny-
my uncle has one im going to have to ask him about it.
But thank you for all your help
we have boston terriers
Jenny, i have another question.
did you just install the fence, and let your dogs figure it out or, how did you introduce them to it?
The question is more like… how long before they figure out how to break through? We had Huskies though and they are smart and love to run. They got the point right away… however it didn’t take them very long to figure out that if they turned sideways and went across the wire at an angle, they would not get shocked.
I’m not sure on the acreage… I don’t remember that.
ADD: I think that is true if they go through the fence head on. But, our dogs learned how to totally avoid the shock period and they were OFF. They were too smart for their own fur. :0)
My husband had to figure out how they were getting through. We watched them do it… so he then took the collar and went out there and turned the collar all different directions. That is how we figured out that if they went at a certain angle the collar wouldn’t even shock.
ADD2: Unless they have fixed that issue in the last 14-13 years.
ADD3: Huskies are very challenging to contain anyway… so it may not be a fair comparison (don’t know what kind of dog you have). Even when we got our chain link fence they would dig under, climb over and even open the gate with their nose. HUGE challenge… you may be ok with the invisible fence.
ADD4: You’re welcome. My In-Laws have a Boston Terrier, she doesn’t seem to wander so I bet you’ll be fine. However, they are smart too… if yours tend to want to wander they may be smart enough to figure it out.
ADD5: We walked them around the border in the safe zone first, so they knew how far they could go without getting shocked. Then we would walk them closer to the line so they could hear the warning beep. Then we would walk them closer so they would know what comes next. They learned it very quickly. I think our fence came with a video to show you how to introduce them to it. Did you get a video?
Best wishes…
