Are Invisible Dog Fences Worth the Money?

If you are in the market for invisible fences for your dog, there are a great selection of them out there.  Invisible fences are great at keeping the dogs in the yard, away from the garden, and away from places you don’t want them to be.

The main function of the invisible fences are to keep the dogs within their boundaries.  This is done by attaching an electrical collar to the dog.  To deter your dog from the leaving the protected area, a shock is triggered upon your dog’s approach, when he is too close.

However, for some breeds, it might not work.  The electric shock will not affect dogs that have long and thick hair.  You will need to shave the hair around their neck for the collar to be effective.

Dewalp, or dogs with loose folds of skin, are another breed of dog that the invisible fence will not work on.  For this reason, before buying the invisible dog fence system, check your breed to make sure that it will work first.

Consider the “ping-string” if you have a garden out back.  These invisible fences don’t require the dog to wear any type of collar.  As the dog approaches within range of the fences, a low frequency sound will be emitted and force the dog to back away.

This sound emitted will be too low for the average human to hear.  This type of fence will keep your garden and other places in your yard safe from the dogs.

To protect your dogs from wandering away from the yard, you will need to install the invisible dog fence system.  The invisible dog fence can be found by companies in the pet industry.

The invisible dog fence system will usually require wires to be run under the ground to a specific point in the yard.  There should be at least four points on the yard, like the shape of a box, but without the sides.  Along with this system, an electrical collar will be worn by the dogs and it will shock them as they are within range of the invisible fences.

Insure your dog’s collar fits properly and that the electrical shock isn’t too much before setting him free.  Also, like any technology, old or new,  there will always be some flaws with them.  To prevent any mishap, only let them in the yard when you or someone else can watch them.

Invisible fences is a great piece of equipment to use for the safety of your dogs.  This system is not only for one dog, it’s also designed to work on several dogs.  The main component to get would just be the collar.  For the safety of your dogs and peace of mind for you, invisible fences is definitely a great investment.
