Slip leash – you can get them for free or almost nothing at shelters. If you go to a pet store and the clerk has no idea what you’re talking about, ask for a “conformation leash” one that people use in the show ring.
You can also try lining the collars with fleece you can get at a fabric store. Good luck with that one! Try fabric glue.
